SCANR, the Stroke National Central Atlantic Network for Research is based in Washington, DC.  SCANR is comprised of four Carnegie Research I universities (George Washington University, University of Maryland, University of Virginia, Georgetown University), three US News and World Report National Top 20 Hospitals (MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital, University of Virginia Medical Center and Childrens National Medical Center), the largest hospital in DC (MedStar Washington  Hospital Center, a US News and World Report Regional Best Hospital), the number 1 ranked hospital in Virginia (University of Virginia, US News and World Report Regional Best Hospital) and the largest health care system in the Baltimore-Washington region (MedStar Health). The goal of SCANR is to provide, combine and integrate the region's best resources to conduct research in acute stroke, secondary stroke prevention, stroke rehabilitation and pediatric stroke.
